This workshop is conceived as a methodological and conceptual exchange between scholars in court studies (history, art history) and researchers from engineering sciences, neuroscience, and cognitive sciences. It aims to explore multisensory bodily experiences of court life from the perspective of courtiers themselves, who were often exposed to physically demanding and uncomfortable conditions such as noise, heat, crowding, and prolonged waiting. Central questions include how gender, age, disability, or illness shaped sensory experiences of court spaces (e.g. staircases, waiting rooms), and to what extent such experiences can be approached through digital modelling and reconstruction. The workshop format prioritizes discussion, networking, and knowledge exchange across disciplines, with short input statements followed by plenary discussion.
